2020 Lindquist Family GSM
This wine is 52% Grenache, 24% Syrah and 24% Mourvedre from some of our best vineyards in cool climate zones on the Central Coast. The Grenache comes primarily from the Reeves Vineyard in the Edna Valley, a small organic vineyard that we have signed to an exclusive contract going forward. There’s also a bit of Grenache here from the Biodynamic Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard. The Syrah comes from Reeves and Sawyer Lindquist again, and also from the Ibarra-Young Vineyard in the Los Olivos District, which is now being farmed Biodynamic. The Mourvedre is from Ibarra-Young, Martian Ranch (also Biodynamic, Alisos Canyon area)), and lastly a bit from Rancho Arroyo Grande Vineyard in the Arroyo Grande Valley.
2020 was a warmer then normal vintage, and in general we are finding the wines to be quite forward and very delicious even in the early going. This wine is a great example of that! It is very much Grenache driven with that juicy, red fruit core. This supplemented nicely with the spiciness and earthiness from the Syrah and Mourvedre.
The various lots were all fermented separately in small, open top fermenters with manual punch downs. They were aged in neutral French oak barrels for 14 months before bottling in December 2021.
This is very much a “drink me now” wine, but certainly has the stuffing and balance to be aged for a while. It is bottled under Stelvin for easy access. We like drinking it with a light chill, at about 60° to 65° Fahrenheit for maximum enjoyment!
