2023 Albarino, Jack Ranch Vineyard
2023 was a cool vintage that followed a wet winter. The vines were recharged from an abundance of winter rain, and we didn’t see a significant heat spell.
The Jack Ranch Vineyard is located on the west side of the Edna Valley. The Edna Valley AVA has the longest growing season from bud break to harvest in California. The vines are close to 25 years old and are very low yielding.
The grapes were whole-cluster pressed and fermented in neutral French barrels. Following fermentation, the wine was aged in barrel, on the lees for 13 months prior to bottling. I’ve noticed the Albariño from this vineyard benefits with extra time in barrel and bottle to develop.
This medium bodied wine has floral aromas with hints of orange and lime blossoms. Bright flavors of white peaches, Myer lemon zest and Marcona almonds come together on the crisp, lively finish.
