2020 Lindquist Family Marsanne
This wine is 100% Marsanne from the Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard in the Edna Valley. We planted this vineyard in 2005 and it was farmed using biodynamic processes from day 1. In 2009 the vineyard was Demeter Certified Biodynamic, and this wine carries the Biodynamic stamp of approval.
2020 was a warmer than normal vintage here on the Central Coast, and the wines reflect the generous, fruit forward character of the growing season. The grapes for this wine were harvested on October 2nd, with wonderful balance and fresh acidity.
As with all our white wines, the grapes were whole cluster pressed and then the juice chilled in a stainless steel tank. I like to settle Marsanne in tank for 48 hours before racking off of the gross juice lees and transferring to barrel for fermentation. This wine was fermented and aged in neutral barrels for 9 months. It is dry and fresh and went through complete malo for complexity and richness.
I’ve been making Marsanne every year since 1987. For many years the grapes came from the Ibarra-Young Vineyard in the Los Olivos District. Sawyer Lindquist is a cooler site and yields a wine with a little more body and acidity, but with that classic stone fruit and wet stone minerality in the aromas.
Marsanne ages remarkably well, if you keep a cellar and want to get full enjoyment of this wine, I’d recommend buying a case…drink 6 bottles over the next year or two, and put the other 6 bottles down for at least 10 years. This wine should continue to improve and complex for 15-20 years! Only 3 barrels (72 cases) of this special wine were made.
Cheers, Bob Lindquist

"The 2020 Marsanne is a silky nuanced white. Floral notes, melon, white flowers and mint are all beautifully lifted. The 2020 is a rare Marsanne of graciousness, lightness and Finesse. Then again, Bob Lindquist has long had a magic touch with Marsanne."-
