2020 Lindquist Family Mourvedre
This wine is 85% Mourvedre and 15% Graciano from the Martian Ranch Vineyard in the newly approved AVA of Alisos Canyon, near Los Alamos, in the heart of Santa Barbara County. Martian Ranch was planted in 2007, and since 2008 has been farming biodynamically…the vineyard and this wine are Demeter Certified Biodynamic.
This is an elegant, cool climate expression of Mourvedre, with classic earthiness, spice and wild berry aromas. It is a bold wine on the palette, with moderate tannins and refreshing acidity. If you like to put wine in your cellar for awhile to mature, this is a prime candidate…it will easily benefit from 10-15 years of aging to be at its most complex!
This is a wine for hearty dishes, grilled or stewed meats come first to mind. In Provence, the area called Bandol, is where Mourvedre is the top varietal. Lamb or goat, cooked over an open flame with lots of olive oil, garlic and wild herbs would be a classic paring!
