2021 Lindquist Family Mourvedre
This wine is 100% from the Martian Ranch vineyard in the Alisos Canyon AVA near the town of Los Alamos in the heart of Santa Barbara Wine Country. Martian Ranch is a Demeter Certified Biodynamic Vineyard, and has been farmed with a keen eye on both quality and land stewardship since its inception.
2021 was a cool vintage by 21st Century standards…though by 20th Century standards it was a “normal” vintage. The grapes were harvested on October 23rd at 23.7° brix, with balanced acidity.
The grapes were de-stemmed and fermented in a small open top fermenter with twice a day manual punch downs. After pressing the wine was transferred into 3 neutral French oak puncheons for aging. 2 of the puncheons were used for our 2021 GSM blend, and the additional puncheon was aged an additional year for this special bottling.
This is an elegant expression of Mourvèdre, but with the classic aromatics of herbs de Provence along with a meaty, gamey note. The elegance of the 2021 vintage carries over into the flavors, with soft tannins and nice plummy fruit.
53 cases were bottled in May 2024 without any fining or filtration.
