2022 Verdad Tempranillo, Martian Ranch

The grapes for this wine were harvested on September 16, 2022, after an extended heat wave. It’s rare that Tempranillo, from the root word ‘temprano’ meaning early would be picked at the same time as Syrah but that is what happened.

This wine is made of 93% Tempranillo and 7% Syrah which was fermented together in small open top fermenters and punched down twice a day during primary fermentation.

The wine was aged mostly in French puncheons (500-liter barrels) for two years. About 35% of the wood was new.

The wine has pretty, black cherry and rose petal aromas followed by flavors of tart cherry, plums, and cassis layered with chocolate and savory earthy notes.
