2022 Lindquist Family Mourvedre

This wine is 100% Mourvèdre from the Martian Ranch vineyard in the Alisos Canyon AVA near the town of Los Alamos, in the heart of Santa Barbara Wine Country. Martian Ranch is a Demeter Certified Biodynamic Vineyard, and has been farmed with a keen eye on both quality and land stewardship since its inception.

2022 was a warmer than normal vintage and the last year of a prolonged drought. The grapes were harvested on October 11th, almost two weeks earlier than the 2021 wine from the same vineyard rows. Because of the drought, the grapes struggled a bit in the home stretch, but still made it to 22.8° brix with refreshing acidity.

The grapes were de-stemmed into small open top fermenters, and manually punched down twice a day. After pressing, the wine was transferred into neutral French oak barrels to age for 20 months. A portion of this wine makes up 15% of our 2022 GSM blend that was bottled earlier. 4 barrels were kept back for this special single vineyard bottling.

This is an elegant expression of Mourvèdre, but with classic aromatics of herbs de Provence, smoked meats and dried fruit. One of the cool aspects of this varietal is its ability to withstand oxidizing…you can open a bottle and enjoy it for at least 3-4 days, which rarely happens in our house!

98 cases were bottled in June 2024 without any fining or filtration.
